2. Industrial Summary (Basic Information)

- Ministry of Construction has released the output target of construction & building materials industry. The figures have been reduced lower than year 2008, which some key notes: (1) Construction Steel -9% (2) Construction Glass -13% (3) Roofing - 4%. Some construction materials has higher target, like: (a) Cement + 11%, (b) Granite Stone +50% (c) Sanitary ware +39%
- Construction is one of the most important industry in existing period. The construction industry has changed dramatically in recent years and many of the buildings that have gone up have improved the appearance of urban Vietnam while the equipment that's being used by the construction industry in Vietnam is in many cases of international standard.
-Capital is coming from various sources to build new urban areas and the demand for mid to upper level housing in urban areas is in part being satisfied. The number of urban housing development projects that have been completed or are ongoing exceeds 1,500. In Vietnam there is now more than 890 million square meters of housing, 260 million square meters of which is in urban areas, and it's increasing by about 58 million square meters per year. The housing law and real estate business law were to be a legal reference regarding housing management, property investment, land use and the development of the property market. Housing construction is a major national target, and by the end of 2008, the Vietnamese Government would like its citizens to have an average of 12 square meters of living space per person.
- The construction industry will be implementing a program to develop housing until 2020. A target has been set to have an additional 30-32 million square meters of housing in the nation and 12 square meters of living space per person in 2008. Here in Vietnam there are ongoing projects to reinforce housing foundations, cope with flooding in the Mekong Delta (the second phase) and the central coastal region, develop the real estate market, register real estate transactions, create a centralized real estate information system and allowing overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu) and foreigners to buy housing in Vietnam.

- In year 2007, Vietnam has imported totally 4.0 billion USD (+37% year on year), from: Korea 284.9 million $US (+36.9%), Thailand 207 mil. $US (+116%), Russia 179 mil $US (+28.7%), Indonesia 74 mil $US (+22.9%)
- In year 2008, The industrial production value has increased by 15.8-16 percent, but the construction industry has decreased by 2 percent. It has shown the signal of unbalance between demand and supply
